Exhibition: Pro-Taseis, Action Field KODRA, 2006

(...) Artists who work with installation or immaterial media, and create relationa and interactive works often explore the discursive potentials of the artwork. The works of Geogia Kotretsos make emblematic references to allusions and codes of the aesthetics of the post-minimalist site - specifically, in which institutional critique had been the major issue. In her artistic practice the framework, context and connotations of the work constitute her object of investigation. The refernce into the "white-cube" or "museum" as an "ideological production apparatus" of modernity, of the historization of media and artworks, between the original and the reproduction, as well as the construction of canonistic methods of the receptio of the work provide the stimulus for the reconsideration of the audience today. The relation of the artwork to the audience is the main focus of Kotretsos' work. - For SITE Kotretsos has created (carved in marble) a perfect copy of a snapshot, that she has taken in front of the famous Mona lisa during her last visit to the Louvre. This photograph served as "the stimulus of the gesture, which explores the relations that artworks produce in the specific contexts they inhabit." Kotretsos has been exploring projects that show their development from the original conception to the final completion the inter-dependence and inter-relation of the artwork/viwer, binding the two entities into the actual work.
